The Swedenborg Society’s 202nd AGM

On Thursday 28 June 2012 the Society will hold its 202nd ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The AGM will reflect upon the Society’s movements in 2011 and will also present a vote on future publications of the Society. In this way the AGM offers an important insight into the Society’s work and direction. As a reward for sitting through the ‘business’ side of things, our esteemed President, Anders Hallengren (pictured, left) will give a talk on the Jardin des Plantes in Paris (pictured above) and its special place within Swedenborg’s intellectual legacy. Anders has written extensively on the American poet, Swedenborg reader and founder of the Transcendentalist movement RW Emerson, and his talk will explore the connections between Swedenborg, Emerson, Balzac and Strindberg and their ‘Swedenborgian’ readings of nature following visits to the botanical gardens in Paris, where each discovered ‘a cosmos in shorthand.’

Doors will open at 6pm. Refreshments will be served and the meeting will commence at 6.30 pm. Everyone is welcome to attend but only members can vote. The Society hugely appreciates the support of its members, readers and visitors and we hope to see lots of you here. Admission is free but it would be great to confirm numbers so please RSVP to Venue: Swedenborg Hall, 20-21 Bloomsbury Way, London WC1A 2TH.  More info
